You can make this recipe in about 15 minutes, and it's incredibly good. The sauce dresses up the fish so that the dish is "restaurant worthy"--or better. The key ingredient, besides the tilapia, is white miso. I buy a small package at an Asian grocery store (Lotte), because it's less expensive there, but you can find the miso at most major markets. The taste of the white miso is mild and slightly sweet. When you mix it in a sauce with butter and lemon juice, the miso provides incredible flavor to the mild tilapia. The sauce also goes well atop vegetables and rice, which I usually cook to go along with the fish. A word of caution--miso is salty, so avoid adding a lot of extra salt to the tilapia (I don't add any). Any remaining miso that you have left over from the recipe will keep well in your refrigerator, and you can use it in a variety of other dishes, including salad dressings. Enjoy!
Air Fryer Tilapia With Lemon Miso Sauce -- Serves 2
2 tilapia fillets (about 3/4 pound)
1/8 - 1/4 teaspoon of pepper
Zest and juice of 1/2 lemon
1 tablespoon of water
1 tablespoon of white miso
1 chopped green onion
1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder
2 tablespoons of melted butter
Cut a small piece of foil to fit the bottom and an inch or two up the side of your air fryer basket. Spritz the foil with non-stick cooking spray. Cut the fillets in half, length-wise, cutting along the dark center line of the fish with a sharp knife. Pat the fish dry and place it on the prepared aluminum foil. I generally place the large pieces of fish on the sides of the foil/basket and the thin pieces, slightly overlapping, in the middle of the foil for more even cooking. Sprinkle the fish with a little pepper and spritz the tops of the fillets well with non-stick cooking spray. Air fry the fillets at 360 degrees for about 10 minutes. While the fish is cooking, in a small bowl or cup stir together well the lemon zest, juice, water, miso, green onion, garlic powder, and butter. After the fish has cooked for about 10 minutes, pour the sauce evenly over the tops of the fillets and cook the fish for another 3-5 minutes or until it is done to your liking.
